About

I have always had a fascination with the cosmos and the night sky.  Those that live in cities never really see the night sky, they only see a reflective layer of smog aglow with the artificial light of places that do not sleep.

I have found that I don’t like places like that. I like sleep.  Among other things.

I love the inner world of our consciousness. The human condition is a fascinating natural experiment. I’m not sure what I think about it, which is why I continue to paint.

In 1999, I left college and moved to Ithaca, New York alone, having picked out an apartment by phone (the internet wasn’t much, yet). Which is apparently how life works sometimes.  I was 19.

I loved Ithaca, with its progressive tilt and natural beauty, and lived there for nearly 5 years.  It was there that my painting truly began. One day, when my girlfriend (now wife) was at work, I took the liberty of painting her tired, boring, broken coffee table. When I was done, it was neither tired nor boring - though, still broken. Within a week, I was working on canvases.

I thought about going back to school for art; thought about being an art teacher. Basically, I thought about avoiding the traditional career as much, and for as long, as possible. While I thought about that, I stuck around the restaurant business long enough to convince myself it was a good thing to get into. So, I went back to school for that instead. Which is like the antithesis of being an artist.

I got a great job right out of school that placed me on the remotest of remote islands - Kaua’i. Talk about country. And talk about inspiration. I soon left the restaurant management biz for reasons that anyone in that industry would tell you.

I paint and live with my wife and daughter in Koloa enjoying our island lifestyle on the South side.

The evolution of painting and life continues.
